Resurface Safely. Rebuild Collagen. Reveal Radiance
Sublative Resurfacing is a unique form of skin rejuvenation that uses fractional bipolar radiofrequency (RF)—not laser or light—to treat fine lines, texture, acne scarring, and pigmentation with minimal downtime and high melanin safety. At Spectrum Skin Clinic, Sublative Resurfacing is part of our suite of non-ablative technologies designed for patients who need visible collagen remodeling and smoother texture without risking pigment injury or extended recovery.
This treatment is ideal for patients with darker skin types, sensitive skin, or those looking for a safer alternative to fractional CO2 or intense IPL.
What Is Sublative Resurfacing and How Does It Work?
Sublative Resurfacing delivers radiofrequency energy through a grid of matrix points into the dermis, while leaving surrounding tissue intact. Unlike laser treatments that ablate the epidermis, this method bypasses the skin’s surface, focusing on the collagen-producing layers below. As a result, it stimulates controlled micro-injury, triggering fibroblast activity, elastin remodeling, and smoother, firmer skin from the inside out.
Because the top layer remains largely untouched, the risk of hyperpigmentation is dramatically reduced, making Sublative Resurfacing a safe option for Fitzpatrick skin types III–V.

What Can Sublative Resurfacing Treat?
This treatment is clinically effective for:
- Acne scars and post-inflammatory texture
- Fine lines, especially around the eyes and mouth
- Enlarged pores and dull skin tone
- Early crepiness on the cheeks, neck, or lower face
- Residual pigment or uneven skin left behind by acne or sun exposure

Who Is It For?
Sublative Resurfacing is ideal for:
- Patients who have textural concerns but want to avoid downtime
- Skin of color patients who cannot tolerate ablative lasers
- Men and women aged 25–60 with mild to moderate photoaging
- Those with a history of PIH or sensitive skin
- Individuals looking for long-term collagen support without visible flaking or peeling
This treatment is often selected by patients who have plateaued on microneedling or light peels and are ready for a next-level but safe resurfacing modality.

What to Expect During Treatment
After numbing the area with a topical anesthetic, the Sublative handpiece is passed across the treatment zone, delivering RF pulses in a matrix pattern. Patients describe the sensation as warm “pinpricks” with light pressure.
A full-face session takes approximately 30–45 minutes.

Recovery & Results
Downtime is minimal. Expect:
- Mild redness and warmth for 12–24 hours
- Possible tiny “pixel marks” or grid-like impressions that fade within 48–72 hours
- Light dryness or flaking over 2–5 days (no scabbing or crusting)
Makeup can typically be worn after 24 hours. Visible improvements in skin texture and clarity begin around 10–14 days, with collagen remodeling continuing for up to 12 weeks post-treatment.

Recommended Treatment Plan
- A series of 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typically recommended
- Maintenance: Once every 6–12 months for ongoing collagen support
- Perfect for layering with chemical peels, microneedling, or skin boosters in alternating months

Combination Therapies
Sublative Resurfacing works synergistically with:
- Skin boosters (Rejuran, HA microdroplets) for hydration and glow
- Exosomes or PRFM to amplify repair and accelerate healing
- Microneedling (light sessions) between RF appointments to enhance dermal turnover
- Chemical peels for pigment control and surface smoothness
- Neurotoxins for dynamic wrinkle reduction alongside skin firming
