Lip Filler – Hydration & Texture Restoration for Mature Lips

Lipstick was bleeding into the lines around her mouth, and the upper lip border had softened to where lip color sat in the lines instead of on the lip. She wasn't looking for fuller lips — she was looking for lips that didn't show her age before the rest of her face did.

On assessment, the lips showed reduced volume, a softer lip border, and visible vertical lines extending up from the upper lip border. The lip surface read dry, with reduced light reflection and uneven texture. The cupid's bow was flattened. The pattern reflected age-related change in the lip and the area around the mouth rather than naturally thin lips. A hydration-focused approach suited this presentation because the patient's complaint was about surface, not size.

A hydrating filler was placed by cannula in tiny droplets along the lip and at the lip border. A small amount was placed under the nose to soften the vertical lines. Hydration filler is a different placement strategy from volume filler — small amounts placed shallowly, working on the water content of the tissue rather than pushing the lip out. In the after image, the upper lip surface is smoother, the vertical lines have reduced, and lip color sits on the lip rather than bleeding into the skin around it. Volume is not always the answer.
