Selphyl PRFM Hair Restoration in Irvine, CA

Selphyl PRFM (Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix) is an advanced, natural hair restoration treatment that enhances your body’s healing ability to stimulate hair regrowth. Unlike traditional PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), PRFM includes a fibrin matrix that releases growth factors gradually, extending their regenerative effects. At Spectrum Skin Clinic, we use Selphyl PRFM to help restore thicker, stronger, and healthier hair in both men and women experiencing early to moderate hair thinning.

What is PRFM and how does it work for hair loss?

PRFM is a next-generation form of PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). It is processed using the Selphyl system, which creates a fibrin matrix that holds and slowly releases growth factors over time. When injected into areas of thinning hair, these growth factors:

• Stimulate stem cells around hair follicles

• Prolong the growth (anagen) phase of hair

• Improve scalp circulation and follicle health

• Increase hair shaft thickness and density

Because PRFM is autologous (from your own body), it’s biocompatible and very well-tolerated.

What concerns can PRFM treat?

• Early-stage male or female pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia)

• Postpartum shedding or stress-related hair loss

• Thinning in the crown, temples, or hairline

• Preventative care for patients with a family history of hair loss

• Patients not candidates for oral medications or hair transplants

What can I expect during the procedure?

The procedure begins with a simple blood draw. Your blood is processed using the Selphyl system to isolate the PRFM, which is then injected into targeted areas of the scalp. The treatment takes about 45–60 minutes and is performed in-office. Most patients describe the sensation as mild to moderate pressure with brief discomfort.

What is the downtime and recovery?

There is no true downtime. You may experience mild swelling or sensitivity at the injection sites for 24–48 hours. We advise avoiding hair washing, exercise, or scalp manipulation for the rest of the day. You can return to normal activity immediately after.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

You may notice reduced shedding within a few weeks, with visible thickening and regrowth in 2–3 months. Full results appear over 3–6 months as hair cycles improve. Most patients require a series of 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance every 6–12 months.

PRF vs PRFM: Understanding the Difference

You may have heard the terms PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) and PRFM (Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix) used interchangeably. They are related but distinct. PRF is the first-generation biologic, processed without additives to create a fibrin scaffold. PRFM — specifically Selphyl, the formulation used at Spectrum Skin Clinic — is a refined version that adds a controlled polymerization step, creating a more stable matrix that releases growth factors over a longer period.

The result: PRFM stays at the treatment site longer and provides a more sustained release of growth factors than standard PRF. For under-eye hollowness, hair thinning, and skin quality, this extended release window translates to better and longer-lasting outcomes. Dr. Sabeen Munib uses Selphyl PRFM exclusively because of this clinical advantage.

PRFM for Under Eye Hollowness & Tear Troughs

The tear trough — the groove that runs from the inner corner of the eye down toward the cheek — is one of the most difficult areas to treat. Hyaluronic acid fillers in this zone carry a real risk of the Tyndall effect (a bluish discoloration) and can look puffy over time. PRFM is an excellent alternative or complement.

When injected into the tear trough, PRFM stimulates collagen and thickens the skin gradually from the inside. Results are natural, not volumized. There is no risk of Tyndall effect. Patients typically need 2–3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Results develop over 3–4 months as collagen production increases.

Dr. Sabeen Munib performs every PRFM under-eye treatment personally at Spectrum Skin Clinic in Irvine. If you have been told you are "not a candidate" for filler in the tear trough, PRFM may be the solution.
