Both devices belong to the same category and work by the same principle. Needles create controlled micro injuries while radiofrequency heats tissue at depth, and the skin responds by laying down new collagen over the following months. Nobody should choose between them on the basis of which sounds more advanced.
The real variables are how deep the needles go, how many there are, how precisely depth and energy can be controlled, and who is choosing those settings. That last variable turns out to matter more than the first three, which is the argument this page makes.

How Radiofrequency Microneedling Actually Works
Insulated needles pass through the skin surface and deliver radiofrequency energy from their tips at a chosen depth. Each tip creates a small zone of intense heat while the insulation spares the surface, which is why this category can work at depth without the downtime of full ablative resurfacing.
The heat causes immediate collagen contraction and triggers a wound healing response, so fibroblasts lay down new collagen and elastin over the following months. The result builds gradually rather than appearing at once, and a series is usually advised.
Why depth is the whole argument
Depth determines which tissue absorbs the heat. Shallow treatment addresses surface texture, pores and fine lines. Deeper treatment reaches the reticular dermis and the fibrous septae that hold structure. Deeper still is fat, and fat is more vulnerable to thermal injury than dermis is.
This is why a device capable of 4 mm is neither better nor worse in the abstract. It is more capable and less forgiving. The setting matters more than the specification, and the setting is a clinical judgement made about your face by someone who has examined it.

The consultation establishes which layer holds your concern. Surface texture, dermal laxity, scarring and volume loss produce overlapping complaints and are treated at different depths, so the assessment decides the settings rather than the other way round.
How Dr. Munib decides
She assesses skin thickness, existing facial fat volume, the depth of the concern, skin type and pigment risk, and prior treatment response. A thin or hollow face is treated conservatively or not at all at depth, because the downside of overtreatment is difficult to reverse.
Often a reasonable fit
Surface texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, early laxity or acne scarring, in a patient with adequate facial volume and realistic expectations of a gradual result.
Where we are cautious or decline
An already thin or hollow face, active inflammatory skin disease or infection, recent isotretinoin use, pregnancy, or an expectation of a surgical degree of lift. Where volume loss is the real complaint, treating it as laxity makes the appearance worse.

Facial fat loss
Treating into the subcutaneous fat at too high a thermal dose can injure fat cells and reduce volume, which appears as hollowing in the cheeks, temples or under the eyes. It is not the intended outcome of facial treatment and it is difficult to reverse. It is the principal reason we treat thin faces conservatively.
Burns, blistering and scarring
Excessive energy, incorrect depth or poor technique can burn tissue and leave scarring. This is why the procedure is restricted to trained medical operators and, in California, cannot be delegated to an esthetician.
Pigment change
Radiofrequency delivered too deep at too high a thermal dose can injure subcutaneous fat and reduce volume. Nerve injury
Nerve damage has been reported with radiofrequency microneedling. Anatomical knowledge of where nerves run superficially, and restraint with depth in those areas, is the protection.
Underwhelming result
Results build gradually and are modest compared with surgery. A patient expecting a lift will be disappointed regardless of which device is used, which is why expectations are discussed before treatment rather than after.

Did Morpheus8 Ruin People's Skin, or Did the Settings?
It is one of the most searched phrases attached to this treatment, and the honest answer is uncomfortable for the whole industry rather than for one brand. The reported harms are real, they are documented, and the FDA has now formally communicated them. They are also overwhelmingly dose and depth related rather than evidence that a particular device is defective.
A device that reaches 4 mm is more capable and less forgiving. In trained hands treating the right patient at the right depth, that capability is exactly why someone would choose it. In the wrong hands, or run at maximum settings on a thin face, it is how volume is lost. The variable that changed between those two outcomes was not the logo.
