In side view, the perioral skin showed deeply etched vertical lip lines, a creased downturn at the corner of the mouth, and the crepey texture that comes with decades of photoaging in this zone.

Before treatment, these were largely static lines — etched into the skin rather than appearing only with movement — which is the harder pattern to treat. Fractional CO2 resurfacing removes precise microcolumns of damaged skin so new collagen forms as the area heals, softening line depth and refining texture. In mature skin the realistic goal is meaningful softening, not erasure: deep static perioral lines improve but rarely disappear entirely, and the trade is real downtime while the skin heals. Depth of resurfacing, skin type, and aftercare all shape both the result and the recovery.

The treatment here was Frax CO2 — fractional CO2 resurfacing — performed and dosed by a physician because perioral skin is thin and unforgiving: too aggressive a setting risks prolonged redness or pigment change, while too light a pass leaves the lines untouched. In the after image the vertical lip lines read shallower, the skin around the mouth looks smoother, and the overall texture is more even.
