Natural Lip Filler – Defined Top Lip Without Bruising

She wanted a defined top lip and to return to her social schedule the same day. Friends had warned her about bruising and downtime after needle filler, and visible recovery was off the table.

Naturally thin-upper-lip presentation was visible at rest with reduced upper lip body volume and an attenuated vermilion border. The lower lip was within normal range, producing mild upper-lower lip ratio asymmetry. The cupid's bow was flattened. The plan focused on the upper lip — body volume increase and vermilion border definition — with minimal placement in the lower lip to preserve the existing volume.

A soft hyaluronic acid filler was placed via cannula in two passes on the upper lip — vermilion border first, then small aliquots in the body. The lower lip received minor border placement only. Cannula technique distributes product through the lip tissue without vessel puncture, eliminating the bruising and swelling that follow needle injection. The patient returned to work the same afternoon with no visible recovery. In the after image, the upper lip border is defined, the body volume has increased, and the upper-lower lip ratio reads as proportionate. The lower face appears unchanged, which is the indicator that the placement was correct rather than visible. Lip filler at the right scale is invisible at the social distance.
