Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment made of synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps break down and absorb dietary fat.

When injected directly into submental fat deposits, Kybella disrupts the fat cell membrane, causing permanent destruction of the targeted fat cells, which are then naturally cleared by the body’s metabolic processes.

Because Kybella permanently eliminates the fat cells treated, results are long-lasting—as long as a stable weight is maintained.

While most commonly used for double chin reduction, Kybella can be carefully applied to:

• Submental fullness (double chin)

Treatment typically takes 20–30 minutes:

• A topical numbing agent is applied.
• The area is mapped and marked for precision.
• Small injections of Kybella are administered evenly across the fat pad.

Mild burning, pressure, or warmth is common during the injection and for 15–30 minutes afterward.

Swelling is expected and can be significant—often peaking around 48–72 hours post-treatment before gradually resolving over 7–14 days.

The number of sessions varies depending on the thickness and distribution of the fat:

• Most patients require 2–4 sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart.

Once optimal results are achieved, no further maintenance is needed unless significant weight changes occur.

• Initial improvement is often visible after 6–8 weeks post first treatment.
• Full contouring effect appears gradually over 12–16 weeks as fat is metabolized.
