Details of the Treatment
Small, thin lips are one of the most common reasons patients ask about lip filler. This patient had lip filler to add volume and shape to both lips. The photos show her lips from the front and from the side.
Before: both lips are small and thin, the lip border is soft, and from the side the upper lip sits flat with little projection.
After: both lips look fuller, the upper lip border is more defined, and the center of the upper lip has more shape. From the side, the upper lip now projects slightly further, and the two lips stay in proportion with each other.
About lip filler: Dermal fillers are FDA-approved for lip augmentation in adults over the age of 21. Some fillers are absorbed by the body over time, so the treatment may need to be repeated to keep the result. How long it lasts depends on the filler and the area treated.
Recovery and risks: Swelling and bruising are the most common effects, and many settle within a few days to weeks. Less common risks include infection and allergic reaction. The most serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel.
Is lip filler right for you: It depends on your lip size and shape, the balance between your upper and lower lip, and how much change you want. Sabeen Munib, MD performs every lip filler treatment herself and assesses this at a consultation before any filler is placed.
Individual results vary. The outcome shown reflects this patient's specific anatomy, health history, and treatment plan. Results shown are not guaranteed and are not necessarily typical. Photos used with patient consent.
