Details of the Treatment
A thin upper lip next to a fuller lower lip can make the lips look uneven, with the mouth reading bottom-heavy. This patient had lip filler to add height to the upper lip and bring the two lips into balance. The photos show her lips close up, from the front and at an angle.
Before: the upper lip is thin with little height, the lower lip is noticeably fuller, and the upper lip border has little shape.
After: the upper lip has more height and a defined center, and the two lips read in better balance. The angled view shows the same added height in the upper lip.
About lip filler: Dermal fillers are FDA-approved for lip augmentation in adults over the age of 21. Some fillers are absorbed by the body over time, so the treatment may need to be repeated to keep the result. How long it lasts depends on the filler and the area treated.
Recovery and risks: Swelling and bruising are the most common effects, and many settle within a few days to weeks. Less common risks include infection and allergic reaction. The most serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel.
