Most of these findings can be assessed and, in many cases, improved. Hyaluronic acid filler may be dissolvable with hyaluronidase, depending on the product used and where it sits. Imaging before treatment shows what is present and at what depth. That assessment is what makes a correction plan realistic rather than a guess.

  • Your lips look puffy above the lip line, a "filler mustache" or ledge that wasn't there before
  • Friends or family have started saying you look "different", or you avoid certain photos because your face doesn't look like you anymore
  • You can feel firm lumps, beads, or cords under the skin that weren't there immediately after injection
  • Your under-eyes look puffy or have a bluish-grey tint in certain lighting, and concealer doesn't fix it
  • You've been getting filler for years and your face feels heavier, fuller, or less defined than it used to

If any of these describe what you're seeing in the mirror, the first step is an ultrasound consultation to see exactly what's there. No injection happens until you've seen the map.

When Filler Doesn't Look Right: A Physician-Led Approach to Correction

Filler that has migrated, that sits more superficially than intended, or that has accumulated across several rounds of treatment is a common reason patients ask for reassessment. A lip ledge, a puffy lower eyelid, or a heavy midface can often be improved once the underlying product has been located.

Sabeen Munib, MD personally performs every filler dissolution at Spectrum Skin Clinic. It is not outsourced. Imaging identifies hyaluronic acid filler before any enzyme is placed, so treatment is directed at the product rather than the surrounding tissue.

Lip Filler Migration & Correction

Lip Filler Migration & Correction

Filler spread above the vermilion border creating a ledge or unnatural appearance. Dissolved in stages where appropriate, to preserve volume sitting correctly while removing what migrated.

Under-Eye Filler Correction

Under-Eye Filler Correction

The thinnest skin on the face and the least forgiving area for misplaced product. Puffiness, a bluish or grey tint, and surface irregularity are assessed with ultrasound before any hyaluronidase is placed, because depth determines whether correction is appropriate here. Outcomes in this area depend on how long the filler has been in place and how the tissue has responded.

From Consultation to Recovery: Your Filler Dissolving Treatment in Irvine

What to Expect at Your Filler Dissolving Appointment

Consultation: ultrasound imaging is used to map existing filler, including depth, location, and whether it has moved from where it was placed. This step is what separates a targeted correction from an estimate.

The treatment: brand-name Hylenex recombinant is placed into the deposits identified on imaging. Amount and placement are determined by what the imaging shows, with the aim of addressing the misplaced product while leaving native tissue alone.

Recovery: mild swelling for 24 to 48 hours is common. Change is usually visible within the first week, though the timeline varies with the area treated and the volume of product present. Some patients need more than one session, which is assessed at follow-up rather than planned in advance.

What to Expect at Your Filler Dissolving Appointment

Who May Benefit From Filler Dissolving?

Filler dissolving may be appropriate if you have concerns about previous filler work and want a safe, precise correction guided by ultrasound imaging. You may be a candidate if:

  • Your filler has moved from where it was placed, most commonly in the lips, under-eyes, or cheeks
  • You see or feel lumpiness, asymmetry, or an unnatural appearance from prior injections
  • You want to start fresh before placing new filler, clearing accumulated product first can make the next result easier to plan
  • Your filler was placed too superficially and is causing visible bumps, a puffy look, or a Tyndall effect under the eyes
  • You have tear-trough or under-eye filler complications that need precision correction
  • You've had years of top-ups from different injectors and want a full reset before deciding what (if anything) to add back

Every treatment begins with a physician consultation including ultrasound assessment. Dr. Munib confirms candidacy, shows you exactly what's present, and creates a personalized plan before any injection.

Hyaluronidase: What It Dissolves, and What It Does Not

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. Because most modern dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid based, those products may be dissolvable when correction is appropriate. Spectrum uses brand-name Hylenex recombinant for filler dissolution when hyaluronidase is appropriate, placed into deposits identified on imaging. The enzyme acts on the filler it reaches, which is the reason placement matters more than quantity.

Not every filler responds. Biostimulators such as Sculptra and Radiesse work by a different mechanism and are not reversed with hyaluronidase. Permanent and semi-permanent products are not dissolvable either. Where the injected product is unknown, or where records from a previous provider are unavailable, imaging and history are used to narrow down what is likely present before anything is offered.

Hyaluronidase is a prescription medication, administered by a physician. Using it to dissolve dermal filler is an off-label aesthetic use. It is well established in aesthetic practice, but it sits outside the product's approved indications, and that is worth stating plainly. Prior reaction to hyaluronidase is reviewed before treatment, and it is not appropriate for every patient. The degree of improvement depends on the filler type, its depth, how long it has been in the tissue, and how that tissue responds. Some findings improve substantially. Others improve partially, and a small number are better managed by leaving the filler to resorb on its own.

Native hyaluronic acid in the skin can also be affected, which is why treatment is directed at mapped deposits rather than spread across an area. This is the reasoning behind a staged, conservative approach: additional treatment can be considered at a second visit if needed, but tissue that has been over-treated cannot be put back.

Why Patients Travel to Spectrum for Filler Correction

Sabeen Munib, MD personally performs every filler dissolution at Spectrum Skin Clinic. It is not outsourced. Consultations include ultrasound mapping so the product is located before any decision to treat is made. The enzyme used is brand-name Hylenex recombinant, placed into the deposits that imaging identifies rather than spread across an area. Treatment is staged deliberately, because preserving native volume is what most patients are most worried about losing. Dr. Munib regularly assesses filler placed by other providers, including patients travelling from Newport Beach, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo, and Los Angeles. Meet Dr. Munib

Thank GOD for Dr. Munib. She is the angel of dissolver!!! I had HA nodules and Sculptra nodules from previously going to Dermfx and I went to Dr. Munib for ultrasound guided dissolving. She is gentle, patient, knowledgeable, kind and funny. I feel like she is the last of the good ones in this business. If you are interested in natural looking aesthetic results that aren’t botched and don’t cause you years of facial pain go to her. I would try to see her as my primary doc if I wasn’t moving out of the area. I would travel to go see her though.
